Twenty
years ago, the secure archiving of data required a
major effort and expense. Every night one large bank,
used to make back-up copies of data on magnetic tapes,
put them on a truck and drive them 120 miles to salt
mines. This ensured that backups were created and available
in case operations had to be performed during an emergency
outage at the main data center. The low cost of disk capacity has resulted in many organizations
having a large amount of information stored on their
computer systems. Many of the files may be mission critical. The significant reduction in the
price of electronic equipment has now made it possible
to offer an affordable & secure
remote location that can archive data and also offer
a back-up facility that can be used in the event of an
Internet outage at the customer’s premises. Specifically, starting this Fall, we will be offering
the following services from our newly constructed data
center within two miles of Buffalo International Airport:
•
Scheduled
courier service to our client’s premises
to pick up back-up media
•
Hosting
of back-up servers to allow customer’s
to perform overnight back-ups
•
Workstation
areas that are reserved for customer’s
to perform mission critical functions during
any Internet outage at their facilities.
Such outages could be caused by the Internet
Service Provider, by weather conditions
or by a power outage.
Specifically,
the Data Vault will provide areas with the latest security
technology for surveillance & access
control. In addition, the facility will have back-up
power generation. In order to avoid bringing attention
to the data center, the data vault is physically situated
in an existing multi-tenant office location within a
commercial zone near the Buffalo International Airport.
